I don't know how to explain how exciting the Ravage storyline was to old G1 fans who were watching Beast Wars. Sure, Ravage was clearly just a recolored Transmetal Cheetor CGI model. But it was a connection to our old beloved show - and Ravage was just the beginning. I won't spoil it for you if you've never watched, but just know that Beast Wars is firmly in the original Transformers storyline, and it's great.
I tried to think of lots of crimes for Megatron to be charged with. In retrospect I think I could've gotten even sillier with them.
